Quick answer (prices checked 10 October 2026; news updated 12 October 2026)
Kuala Lumpur: clinics publish about RM 5–12 per graft for standard FUE, and about RM 10–15 for DHI (no full shave).
Singapore: about S$4–10.80 per graft. Watch for separate surgical fees (S$800–2,000) and GST.
Shanghai: a Shanghai clinic puts the local market at about US$0.80–2 per graft. Le Medica's Elite member package is US$5,000 for 3,000 long-hair FUE grafts, including 2 nights at Mercure Shanghai Hongqiao SOHO and airport transfers (about RM 20,400 / S$6,400). Elite price: no membership fee; requires full prepayment upfront. Our standard treatment price is US$6,000 (about RM 24,500 / S$7,690), for the procedure only. Both are available at our partner hair hospitals in Shanghai.
Seoul: about KRW 2,500–8,000 per graft, depending on the clinic tier. Many Korean clinics quote per hair (모), not per graft, so check which one before comparing. Foreign visitors can no longer reclaim Korea's 10% VAT on cosmetic procedures (the refund ended on 31 December 2025), so compare Seoul prices including VAT.
Bangkok: about THB 80–150 per graft. Some clinics also offer flat prices.
The biggest cost drivers are how many grafts you need, the technique (shaven FUE, non-shaven/long-hair FUE, DHI, FUT), who does the surgical steps, and extras like surgical fees, tax, medication, flights and hotel.
If you've started getting hair transplant quotes, you've probably noticed the numbers are all over the place. One clinic quotes per graft, another per hair, another gives a flat price, and some leave out tax, surgical fees or aftercare.
This guide puts published prices from named clinics and surveys in five cities side by side, in ringgit, Singapore dollars and US dollars. Every figure has a link and the date we checked it. Where a number is an estimate or our own calculation, we say so.
How to read this guide: prices are what clinics publish, not quotes for you. Your price depends on a doctor's assessment of your scalp, donor area and goals. All conversions use European Central Bank reference rates for 9 October 2026 (US$1 ≈ RM 4.09 ≈ S$1.28; RM 1 ≈ S$0.31), rounded.

Table B: What about 3,000 grafts, non-shaven or long-hair? (worked from the published prices above)
Long-hair (non-shaven) FUE is what Le Medica's Shanghai package covers, so this table compares like with like where clinics publish it. These are our calculations from published rates, procedure only unless noted. They are not quotes.
City / source | Calculation | ≈ RM | ≈ S$ | ≈ US$ |
|---|---|---|---|---|
KL, Nexus (DHI, no full shave for most patients) | 3,000 × RM 10–15 | 30,000–45,000 | 9,400–14,100 | 7,340–11,020 |
Singapore, SL Clinic (non-shaven) | 3,000 × S$6 + 9% GST | 62,600 | 19,620 | 15,320 |
Singapore, Aura Medical (non-shaven) | 3,000 × S$7.50 + S$2,000 fee | 78,170 | 24,500 | 19,130 |
Shanghai, Le Medica Elite member package (long-hair FUE) | Elite member price, incl. 2 hotel nights + airport transfers | ~20,400 | ~6,400 | 5,000 |
Shanghai, Le Medica standard treatment price (long-hair FUE) | Procedure only | ~24,500 | ~7,690 | 6,000 |

Bangkok, Hairsmith (non-shaven) | 3,000 × THB 120 | 43,860 | 13,750 | 10,740 |
Bangkok, Bangkok Health Service (Long Hair non-shave, flat) | THB 130,000 flat, treatment-only | 15,840 | 4,960 | 3,880 |
Our honest read: our Shanghai prices are competitive for long-hair FUE, but even the Elite member package isn't the lowest price on this page. Bangkok has a published flat long-hair price below it, and shaven FUE in KL can cost less than any of the long-hair options. The right choice depends on the doctor, the technique you actually need, what's included, and how comfortable you are with follow-up care across a border.
Le Medica's own founder snapshot. On our hair transplant journey page, our founder lists the quotes she personally compared before choosing Shanghai: Thailand 2,200 grafts for THB 250,000, Malaysia 2,000 grafts for RM 30,000, and a South Korea long-hair FUE band of KRW 8.25M–11M. These were individual quotes from one person's research (clinics not named). They're not market prices, but they show how wide quotes can be.
What's changed recently (news checked 12 October 2026)
Kuala Lumpur: clearer hospital bills from 2027. Malaysia's Budget 2027, tabled on 9 October 2026, says that starting in 2027, private hospital bills will use standardised, transparent fee categories so patients understand every charge. A new Medi Asas insurance plan, with standardised charges based on diagnosis and treatment type, launches in January 2027 (The Star, 9 Oct 2026; NST, 9 Oct 2026). What this means for KL prices: the KL figures above are 2026 clinic prices, and the budget doesn't set hair transplant prices. Once the new categories apply, itemised KL bills should be easier to compare line by line with a quote from Shanghai or Seoul. Until then, ask any KL hospital or clinic for a fully itemised quote. Hair transplants are often done in private clinics rather than hospitals, so ask whether the new categories apply to yours.
Seoul: prices now include VAT you can't reclaim. Korea's VAT refund for foreign visitors on cosmetic procedures (hair transplants are on the list of VAT-taxable cosmetic procedures) covered treatments supplied by 31 December 2025, and bills to bring it back haven't passed (K-Beauty Navi, statute explainer, 14 Sep 2026; Health Chosun, 8 Oct 2026). In our tables, MONARA is shown with its 10% VAT added and Motential's notice already includes VAT, so neither needed changing. For any other Seoul quote, ask "Is this the final price including VAT?" A clinic's "tax refund" offer is its own discount, not the government scheme.
Korea's scale. Korea had about 2.01 million foreign patients in 2025, up from about 1.17 million in 2024, according to Ministry of Health and Welfare figures (MedPharma News, 9 Oct 2026). Most of those visits were for dermatology and cosmetic care, so Seoul has plenty of clinics to compare.
2. What drives the cost of a hair transplant
2.1 How many grafts you need
Price is mostly grafts × price per graft. A graft (follicular unit) holds 1–4 hairs. The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery's 2025 Practice Census reports average sessions of about 2,262 grafts for FUE and 2,100 for FUT among its members (2024 data). Your number depends on your hair-loss pattern, donor supply and goals. Two doctors can recommend different counts for the same scalp, so ask each clinic why it's recommending that number.
2.2 Per graft vs per hair (watch this in Korea)
Many Korean clinics price per hair (모). Since one graft averages about two hairs (MONARA's stated average), KRW 3,300 per hair is roughly KRW 6,600 per graft. Always convert to the same unit before comparing. Malaysian clinics sometimes write "per hair" when they mean per graft too, so ask.
2.3 Technique: FUE, FUT, DHI, long-hair FUE
FUT (strip): a strip of scalp is removed and divided into grafts. It's usually cheaper per graft (e.g. RM 5–10 at Nexus KL) but leaves a linear scar.
Shaven FUE: grafts are taken one by one from a shaved donor area. It's the most common method.
DHI: an implanter pen places grafts directly. It usually costs more (RM 10–15 vs RM 8–12 for FUE at Nexus KL).
Non-shaven or long-hair FUE: your hair stays long, so it's more discreet, but it's slower and more technical. Clinics charge more for it: ×1.3 at MONARA, S$6 vs S$4 at SL Clinic, and THB 120 vs 80 at Hairsmith.
2.4 Who does what in the operating room
Ask exactly who does the extraction, the incisions and the implantation: the doctor, or trained technicians under the doctor? Seoul's market survey puts the senior-surgeon tier at about KRW 5,500–8,000 per graft against KRW 2,500–4,500 at mid-tier clinics. To be transparent about our own example, in our founder's procedure in Shanghai the doctor did the extraction and a six-person team handled implantation, as described on our journey page. Ask any clinic, including our partners, to explain its team set-up in writing.
2.5 Hidden extras to ask about
Surgical or facility fees: Aura Medical S$2,000; Dr Tyng Tan S$800 for shaved techniques.
Tax: SL Clinic's prices exclude GST; MONARA's exclude 10% VAT (added in our tables). In Korea, foreign visitors can no longer reclaim that VAT on treatments from 2026.
Blood tests and consultations: SL Clinic notes a blood test may be needed.
PRP or exosome add-ons: Seoul survey estimate KRW 400,000–900,000 per session.
Medication and special shampoo after surgery.
Follow-up reviews: some clinics include them (Dr Tyng Tan lists 8 reviews over 12 months). Others charge for them.
Flights, extra hotel nights, meals and local transport if you're travelling.
Time off work: our founder couldn't wash her hair for 6 days, and her doctor advised no exercise or sauna for 10–14 days. Your doctor's instructions may differ.
3. Worked example: total trip cost from KL or Singapore to Shanghai
Scenario: you need about 3,000 grafts and want long-hair FUE, booked through Le Medica. There are two ways to book it, and the Elite member package bundles the hotel and transfers:
Option | Price for 3,000 long-hair FUE grafts | What's included | What you add | Known subtotal |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Elite member package (Le Medica Elite members) | US$5,000 (≈ RM 20,400 / S$6,400). Elite price: no membership fee; requires full prepayment upfront. | Procedure + 2 nights at Mercure Shanghai Hongqiao SOHO + airport transfers | Return flights | US$5,000 + flights |
Standard treatment price | US$6,000 (≈ RM 24,500 / S$7,690) | Procedure only | Return flights, your own hotel and local transport | US$6,000 + flights + your own hotel and transport |
Extras for either option:
Item | Cost | Source / note |
|---|---|---|
Extra grafts if the doctor recommends more | US$200 per 1,000 (≈ RM 820 / S$260) | Published add-on price |
Optional light therapy session | US$40 (≈ RM 160 / S$50) | Our founder's itinerary on the journey page |
Return flights KL–Shanghai or Singapore–Shanghai | Check live fares | Fares change daily, so we don't quote them |
Extra hotel nights beyond the Elite package's 2 | Check rates | Optional |
Meals, local transport, post-op shampoo, travel insurance | Your budget | Ask us what's included in your plan |
Put your own flight quote (and, for the standard option, your hotel and transport) into the subtotal, then compare the total with a local quote that includes GST/VAT, surgical fees and follow-ups. Get the exact inclusions in writing before you pay.

4. Considering Seoul, Bangkok or staying in Malaysia?
Shanghai is one strong option, not the only one. Le Medica also works with hair clinics in other cities:
Bangkok: KOL Clinic (DHI and long-hair packages), THE KLINIQUE Siam Paragon, SLC Siam Paragon. See all hospitals in Thailand.
Seoul: WJ Wonjin Plastic Surgery (incisional hair transplant). See all hospitals in South Korea.
Malaysia: see hospitals in Malaysia.
Shanghai: see our partner hospitals in China and the hair transplant treatment page.
Going to China? Read our pillar guide, Going to China for Medical Treatment from Malaysia, Singapore or the US, for visa-free rules, hospitals and paying with Alipay or Touch 'n Go.
5. A note for US readers: Asia vs back home
ISHRS's Practice Census doesn't publish US prices, so here are three US clinics that publish their own (checked 10 October 2026). For 3,000 FUE grafts, published prices work out at about US$7,500–27,000:
Hair Transplant Design, Tampa: US$2.50 per graft regular rate, so 3,000 × US$2.50 = US$7,500. A limited-time special was lower.
Limmer Hair Transplant Center, San Antonio: US$7 per graft for large FUE sessions plus a US$150 lab fee, so 3,000 × US$7 + US$150 = US$21,150.
Jae Pak MD, Los Angeles: US$9 per graft, so 3,000 × US$9 = US$27,000. It lists long-hair FUE, the technique in our Shanghai package, at US$12 per graft (about US$36,000 for 3,000 grafts).
US prices are clinic procedure fees from published price pages; travel not included. Promotional rates can be lower. Le Medica Shanghai, Elite members: US$5,000 for 3,000 long-hair FUE grafts, incl. 2 hotel nights and airport transfers, excl. flights. Elite price: no membership fee; requires full prepayment upfront. Le Medica standard treatment price: US$6,000, procedure only. Prices vary by patient; get an itemised quote.
Asia isn't always the lower-cost option. What our Elite member package offers is the whole trip in one price: the procedure, two hotel nights and airport transfers, with flights on top. The fairest approach:
Get itemised written quotes at home and abroad (grafts, technique, fees, follow-ups).
Add flights, hotel and time off. From the US, Seoul, Bangkok, KL and Shanghai are all long-haul.
Check whether your insurer covers complications abroad, and line up a local doctor for follow-up.
Read the US CDC's Medical Tourism guidance.
If you choose China: the US isn't part of China's visa-free agreements with Malaysia or Singapore, so check your entry options with the Chinese Embassy or a consulate in the US before you book flights. See the visa section of our pillar guide.
6. FAQ
1. How much does a hair transplant cost in Malaysia in 2026? KL clinics publish about RM 5–12 per graft for standard FUE and RM 10–15 for DHI. For example, Nexus Clinic KL lists RM 7.50 per graft for 2,001–3,000 grafts, so 3,000 grafts works out to about RM 22,500. Your price depends on your assessment.
2. How much does a hair transplant cost in Singapore? Singapore clinics publish about S$4–10.80 per graft. Check for surgical fees (S$800–2,000 at some clinics) and whether GST is included.
3. Is a hair transplant cheaper in China than in Malaysia? Sometimes. A Shanghai clinic describes the local market as about US$0.80–2 per graft, which overlaps with KL's RM 5–12. For long-hair FUE, Le Medica's Elite member package in Shanghai is US$5,000 for 3,000 grafts, including 2 hotel nights and airport transfers. Elite price: no membership fee; requires full prepayment upfront. Our standard treatment price is US$6,000, for the procedure only. Compare like-for-like technique and inclusions.
4. Why do Korean clinics quote per hair? Many Korean clinics price per hair (모) rather than per graft. One graft averages about two hairs, so a per-hair price is roughly half the per-graft price. Convert before you compare.
5. Why does long-hair (non-shaven) FUE cost more? It's slower and more technical because grafts are taken from among long hair. Published premiums include ×1.3 in Seoul (MONARA), S$6 vs S$4 in Singapore (SL Clinic) and THB 120 vs 80 in Bangkok (Hairsmith).
6. What's included in Le Medica's Shanghai hair transplant prices? For Le Medica Elite members, US$5,000 covers 3,000 long-hair FUE grafts, 2 nights at Mercure Shanghai Hongqiao SOHO and airport transfers. Elite price: no membership fee; requires full prepayment upfront. Our standard treatment price is US$6,000, for the procedure only. Extra grafts are US$200 per 1,000 for both. Both are available at our partner hair hospitals in Shanghai, and suitability is decided by the doctor at a consultation.
7. What hidden costs should I budget for? Surgical or facility fees, GST/VAT (in Korea, the 10% VAT on cosmetic procedures can no longer be reclaimed by foreign visitors), blood tests, medication and shampoo, PRP add-ons, follow-up reviews, and if you travel, flights, extra hotel nights, meals and time off work.
8. How many grafts will I need? It depends on your hair-loss pattern and donor area. The ISHRS 2025 Practice Census reports average FUE sessions of about 2,262 grafts among its members. Only a doctor's assessment can give your number.
9. Can I get a VAT refund on a hair transplant in Korea? Not for treatments in 2026. Korea's VAT refund for foreign visitors on cosmetic procedures covered treatments supplied by 31 December 2025, and bills to bring it back haven't passed as of October 2026. Ask Seoul clinics for the final price including 10% VAT, and compare on that number.
